Hot Tub Filter Maintenance
We all want to enjoy clean, clear Hot Tub Water, and regular Filter Maintenance helps a lot!
Dirty, clogged hot tub filters can make it difficult to maintain your hot tub's water, can add to the amount of chemicals you need to use and can put strain on your pumps or cause "FLO" errors to occur.
Your hot tub filters are constantly at work trapping debris and keeping your water clean and clear, and you can help them out by keeping up regular maintenance and replacing them as required.
Your furnace filter should be changed every 3 months for optimal performance, and your hot tub filter or filters should also be changed within the proper amount of time for optimal performance.
Here are some tips on how to succesfully maintain both pleated cartridge filters and Sundance MicroClean Filters.
Sundance Pleated Filters
Even if your pleated cartridge filters look clean, they can often be coated in oils, soaps and lotions that can clog your filters, reduce water flow, put strain on your pumps, and cause your water to be foamy or cloudy.
Rinsing your filter with a regular garden hose every month will keep debris at bay, but a deep clean with a filter cleaning product each time you change your water will increase the efficiency of your Sundance hot Tub Filters, help your pumps perform at their best and keep your water looking and feeling great!
The Sundance Spa Store stocks two different types of cartridge cleaner at all 5 stores. "Aqua Magic" is a spray on filter cleaner, which works its magic in 5 - 10 Minutes, eliminating the need to find a huge bucket and soak filters overnight. Just Spray Aqua Magic all through the pleats of your filter, let it sit for 5 minutes and then hose off.
"Cartridge Cleaner" is a more traditional Filter Cleaning product. Simply add half a bottle of Cartridge Cleaner to 10 liters of warm water, soak overnight and then rinse thoroughly. Both Filter Cleaning options have proven themselves to successfully remove grease, body oils, lotions, organics and scale from Sundance Hot Tub Filters.
Keep these things in mind when it comes to cleaning your Pleated Cartridge Filters:
* Avoid the use of laundry detergents & household cleaners - They can cause major foaming issues in your hot tubs water if you use them, and can also degrade your filter, meaning you will have to replace the filter or filters prematurely.
* Have a spare filter on hand - Having a spare filter so you can rotate them is a good idea. If you use regular Cartridge Cleaner, you can put your spare filter in the hot tub while your original filter is soaking overnight.
* Use a regular hose, not a power washer. The high water pressure of a power washer can damage the pleated filter material, and reduce the lifespan of your filters.
* Don't use bleach on your Hot Tub filters. Although it may seem to do a good job of cleaning them, it degrades and weakens the filter fibers and greatly decreases the life expectancy of your Hot Tubs filters. Bleach can also have a negative impact on the quality and clarity of your water once the filters are replaced in the hot tub.
Sundance Pleated Filters should be replaced before they become too worn out to avoid cloudy water, increased chemical usage and overworking or damaging your hot tub pumps.
680 Series Hot Tubs have either 2 x 45 Sq Ft cartridge filters or 1 x 50 Sq Ft cartridge filter that should be replaced every 12-18 months.
780, Select, 880 & 980 Series Models come with dual-stage filtration systems. The large Pleated Cartridges should be cleaned regularly and replaced approximately every 18 months.
Filter life varies based on use, number of bathers, number of bathing sessions, length of bathing sessions, amount of product or products brought in by each bather, different types of products brought in by each bather. These are all factors on the life expectency of the filter(s) and how often they should be cleaned and/or replaced. If you want your filters to last as long as possible, have a shower before hot tubbing. At every public pool and hot tub you will see signs saying shower before you enter the pool and/or hot tub.
Sundance MicroClean Filters
780 Series & Select Series Sundance Hot Tubs are equipped with MicroClean I filters. These High-Spun polypropylene fiber filters polish your water and give ultra-fine filtration, dealing with oils, lotions & tiny particles that are too small for a regular pleated Hot Tub Filter or filters to deal with.
The MicroClean I filter is fully disposable, and does not require any washing or maintenance. Simply replace the MicroClean Filter approximately every 3-5 Months to ensure your water stays clean & clear.
880 & 980 Series Sundance Hot Tubs are equipped with MicroUltra Filtration. This 2 Piece interlocking system provides advanced dual stage filtration that is the ultimate in hot tub water treatment. The Inner “Core” Filter sits inside the large pleated filter, and is completely maintenance free. The Inner Core filter should be replaced every 6-12 Months.
Older model 880 Series Spas used the MicroPlus fully disposable filter. This triple-layer disposable pleated cartridge filter is still available, and can be used instead of or in place of the Inner/Outer MicroUltra Filters if desired. MicroPlus filters are completely maintenance free, and help keep your water clean for 6-12 months without any cleaning or hassle!
