Ease of Ownership - Part 1 Filtration

Have those of you thinking about getting a hot tub ever wondered how much work is involved in maintaining a hot tub?  Have these thoughts actually deterred you from making a purchase?  I bet many of you have had such thoughts, and you're not alone.  In fact this is probably one of the most common concerns when people are thinking about getting a hot tub...I'll have to be out there washing and scrubbing and balancing and testing the water and not enjoying the spa!

Well I'm here to tell you that you've got it all wrong.  All hot tubs on the market nowadays are "Self Cleaning"....to a point.  What does self cleaning really mean?  Does it mean I never ever have to do anything to keep my water crystal clear and smelling nice?  Not really.  Self cleaning means that the hot tub has a filter that removes some of the compounds in the water that we leave behind.

Now there is a big difference in the types of filters in the marketplace.  Just as you can get a better furnace filter for your house you can get a spa with a better water filter.  They both work the same way by straining smaller particles out of the air or water because of a denser filter material.  Most hot tub companies use a filter made from paper fibre that does a decent job at filtration.  However, you can now get a spa that filters out particles 50 times smaller by using micro-fibre technologies, such as Sundances' MicroFiltration.  Obviously, the more the filter takes out of the water the better the water quality and the less work it is for you to keep your water clean and smelling fresh.

But there's more.  Better filtering spas also filter the water continuously, 24-hours a day, using an energy-lowering circulation pump.  Now many hot tub makers use these pumps, but what they don't tell you is the rate of filtration or the amount of water being filtered each day.  Most of the spas out there will filter the entire body of water in the spa 25 to 50 times a day.  Better filtering spas such as Sundances' 880 hot tubs will filter the water 125 times a day or up to 185,000 litres.

So you see you get the benefit of a better Microfilter, continuous low cost filtration, and way more water passing through the filter each day in a Sundance Spa that results in a lot less work for you and a lot more enjoyment of your spa....now that's ease of ownership!

Remember, before you buy understand what you're buying and really learn why some spas are better than others.

As always your comments are welcome.
